Spontaneous dissection of the celiac trunk is a rare pathology, but its incidence has been increasing in recent years. The most common symptom is abdominal pain and the diagnosis is usually made by computed tomography. The etiology of the disease, its presentation and clinical evolution are still unclear. As it is an uncommon entity, there are no guidelines for treatment or follow-up, and its approach is based on case reports in the literature.
The authors present a case of spontaneous dissection of
the celiac trunk that occurred in a woman in her third decade of life, with no known risk factors and whose predominant symptom was abdominal pain. Under conservative treatment, namely anticoagulation, there was a favorable evolution.
With the description of this case, we intend to draw attention to the importance of recognizing spontaneous dissection of the celiac trunk in the differential diagnosis of abdominal pain.
