Resumo

Takotsubo syndrome or stress-induced myocardiopathy is responsible for a significant number of cases with suspected acute coronary syndrome characterized by transient left ventricular ballooning often precipitated by psychologically or emotionally stressful events. Its occurrence associated with thyrotoxicosis in the context of Graves' disease is described as most likely caused by the exacerbation of catecholaminergic activity resulting from excess of circulating thyroid hormones. The authors present the case of a 43-year-old female patient diagnosed with Takotsubo cardiomyopathy associated with thyrotoxicosis due to Graves' disease, with improvement of the condition after correcting the hormonal imbalance.
