Abstract

Erythema nodosum is an inflammatory condition of the
subcutaneous adipose tissue, characterized by violet nodules, typically symmetrical and localized in the pretibial region. It can manifest as a dermatological expression of multiple pathologies, medications, or vaccines. The exact pathophysiology is unknown. Diagnosis is clinical, and a skin biopsy may be performed in case of doubt.

We present the case of a patient with erythema nodosum
after the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine and subsequent recurrence
after infection by the same virus. Infectious, autoimmune diseases, and neoplasms were ruled out.

There was complete regression of clinical symptoms in
both situations following corticosteroid therapy. The presented case is unprecedented, as it reports the onset of erythema nodosum after exposure to the mRNA of the second dose of the SARS-CoV-2 vaccine and subsequently to the virus itself in the same patient.
