Abstract

Marine-Lenhart syndrome is a rare cause of hyperthyroidism, characterized by the coexistence of Graves' disease and a functioning nodule or toxic multinodular goiter. It has a prevalence of 0.8% to 2.7% in patients with severe disease, with few cases described in the literature. Here, we describe the case of a 67-year-old woman, with no relevant personal history, referred for symptomatic primary hyperthyroidism. Therapy with methimazole was initiated and a complementary study
was requested with thyroid scintigraphy with technetium- 99, which was suggestive of Marine-Lenhart syndrome. She was followed up in consultation and therapy with  symptomatic control and normalization of thyroid function. The authors will also review the existing literature on this rare syndrome.
