Abstract

Septic pulmonary embolism is an uncommon condition
and was historically a complication of septic pelvic thrombophlebitis secondary to septic abortion and postpuerperal uterine infection. Nowadays is commonly reported in the context of endocarditis and its association with urinary tract infections is rare. It is also less frequently associated with gram-negative organisms. The clinical presentation is nonspecific, which makes diagnosis difficult. The early institution of antibiotics is the mainstay of its treatment and prevention of complications. We present a case of a patient admitted for septic shock with urinary starting point with E. coli bacteremia who evolved with septic pulmonary embolism.
