Amyotrophic lateral sclerosis is a neurodegenerative disease that leads to the weakening and muscle atrophy. Because it threats quality of life, its bearers ought be oriented towards palliative care team after their diagnosis, with the objective of relieving their multidimensional suffering.
The present case points out various ethical, existential
and legal questions that this disease originates, as well as the approach taken by the team regarding any decisions about ventilation, feeding and hydration, euthanasia and palliative sedation.
